The City of Stillwater is seeking public input on how to allocate federal funding it should receive for the benefit of people with low to moderate incomes.

The first meeting is Tuesday, March 6 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the City of Stillwater Community Center, 315 W. 8th Ave., Room 100. The second meeting is Tuesday, March 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the same location.

Residents can also email ideas or suggestions to Grants Coordinator Valerie Silvers at [email protected] by Tuesday, March 13.

Projects and activities that CDBG typically fund include the following:

  • Economic development
  • Park and playground equipment
  • Water and wastewater system improvements
  • Public facilities such as community centers, museums or libraries
  • Solid waste
  • Fire protection
  • Streets
  • Housing demolition
  • Senior citizen centers
  • Gas and electrical system improvements
  • Stormwater drainage improvements

The primary national objective of the CDBG program is to develop communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment. Recent CDBG projects include:

  • 2011: Waterline replacement in the area of DotyArrington and Berry streets and 3rd Avenue.
  • 2012: Sewer line replacement between 4th and 6th avenues along Pine, Gray, Stanley and Blakely streets.
  • 2013: Stormwater drainage improvements in the area along 19th Avenue and Sangre Road and Stonegate Avenue and Raintree Drive.
  • 2014: Leigh and Hall drainage channel restoration and improvements phase one.
  • 2015: Leigh and Hall drainage channel improvements phase two, and Tucker Addition, Fern, Chester and Hartford water line replacements.
  • 2016: ADA-compliant sidewalks along Airport Road from Wings of Hope Family Crisis Services toward public bus stop.
  • 2017: Renovations to Strickland Park’s skate park.

The CDBG grant is typically around $100,000. With the required one-to-one match, the project will total around $200,000. Stillwater City Council approves the project(s) and funding and the City of Stillwater administers the project(s).

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) administers the federally funded CDBG grant program through the Oklahoma Department of Commerce (ODOC).
