Battle of the Bands III set for Nov 19

Stillwater Chapter of DeMolay is hosting its third annual Battle of the Bands on November 19, 2016 at the Stillwater Community Center starting at 4:00pm. The bands include Simpleton (last year’s runner up, alternative) who hails from Stillwater, and the headliner is A Beautiful End (hard rock), who won last year’s competition. The bands in the battle are judged by a panel of community members and the winner will receive a $350 award and an opportunity to headline next year’s event.

Tickets are $12 and a portion of every ticket is donated to the Ronald McDonald House of Oklahoma City. The rest of the proceeds will go directly to the young men of Stillwater DeMolay. DeMolay is an organization for young men ages 12-21 that teaches leadership, public speaking, and civic awareness through real world applications of project management, fundraiser follow-through, and community service. Stillwater Chapter is the three-time Chapter of the Year and has been serving the Stillwater Community since 1921.

The idea for the Battle of the Bands began in 2013 when the current DeMolays recognized that there was no live music available to the youth of Stillwater. The goal of this event is to fill that niche to allow those who don’t want to travel to Oklahoma City or Tulsa to see great local music in an all ages environment. Eventually, Stillwater Chapter is hoping to make this a weekend long music festival that will be a staple in the Stillwater Community Calendar.

The chapter is seeking local business sponsors for this event and is offering a tiered system to help attract sponsors. A sponsorship of $150 will get a businesses logo on the flier, on the thank you listing, and a booth at the event. A donation of $250 will include the above benefits plus the organization’s named mentioned in any press releases for the event. A $500 or more sponsorship will include the logo placed on the tickets as well as the above benefits. Poster and tee shirt development is also being explored.

The costs of the event have been covered in large part by the Oklahoma State University football concessions that the Stillwater chapter of Demolay works each year. Their current stand is downstairs on the south side of the stadium.
