From the Editor (October Edition)

by Ammie Bryant, Editor

It’s finally here! Autumn is by far my favorite season. October brings those long awaited cooler temperatures with sweaters and jackets and pumpkin-spice everything.

I love watching the leaves turn orange, red, and yellow as the days begin to shorten. The cooler days are followed by crisp nights when we can finally turn off those air conditioners and enjoy the beauty of Oklahoma in the fall.

October has always been my favorite month, even before I moved to Stillwater as a young newlywed and became entrenched in all that a Stillwater October brings, from football games, tailgating, and the week-long extravaganza that is America’s Greatest Homecoming to Harvest festivals and Halloween in Downtown Stillwater.

My family will celebrate many birthdays this month including mine, my youngest son’s, my youngest niece’s, and two of my aunts’. It’s also the anniversary of my first date with my husband, Jefferson, who also happens to be SLM’s Sales Director and photographer-extraordinaire.  October is full of happy memories as well as opportunities to make new ones.

Speaking of making memories, in this issue, we’ve got a great list of ideas to help you get out there and make your fall fabulous with the special people in your life. Visit Stillwater also brings the Hometown Advantage to enjoying Stillwater like a tourist. To that end, be sure to visit the Sheerar Museum of Stillwater History and the OSU Museum of Art this month to view their newest exhibits. We also have stories highlighting two long-standing local businesses, one is closing after 30 years as a unique Stillwater institution and the other is celebrating 25 years and looking forward to future growth.

The stories in each issue are a joy to share and this issue is no exception. We hope you enjoy all that we have packed into our October issue of SLM.

Happy fall y’all!
