From the Editor (September Edition)

slm_september16final-cover-for-webWith the month of September, we are all settling back into our school routines. I enjoy our quiet, laid back Stillwater summers, but I’m always glad to see our town wake-up again with the new school year as Stillwater gets back to the business of a bustling college town.

With the new school year also comes the excitement of football season. I’m a huge fan and have been since I was a kid. I always loved watching my hometown high school football games and that hasn’t changed as I’ve grown older. The first weekend of September sees the kickoff of the new season for both our Pioneers and our Cowboys with the added excitement of the rescheduled Boomer Blast fireworks show the night of the first High School football game. As a bonus, we get to watch our 8th grader perform with the high school band that night–it’s a tradition that gives the new 8th graders a taste of what they have to look forward to in high school band.

20160729_091638Speaking of football, this summer I checked off one item from my bucket list by participating in the 11th Annual Cowboy Football 101 program. Be sure to read all about my adventure in this month’s Tour Your Town Like a Travel Writer article. In keeping with the spirit, we also have articles about a couple of Stillwater businesses with deep OSU roots (Chris’ University Spirit and Fenton Office Mart) as well as a new institution that has just broken ground (The Ranch).

Nook and Cranny is back this month with another inspiring Creative Living article, this time featuring the new and improved Sangre Ridge Elementary Teachers’ Lounge. We know those teachers work hard and deserve to have such a beautiful space to relax–or at least try to!

We’re also proud to celebrate 100 years of ROTC with our Cowboy Cadets this month. The Sheerar Museum of Stillwater History has a great article all about that and will debut an even greater exhibit highlighting the history this month.

This issue features all of these great stories and more and we are proud to bring you another great issue of Stillwater Living Magazine. We hope you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoy sharing it with each of you.
