‘Legendary’ book sale taking place April 19-22 at Stillwater Public Library

Media Release

Readers should get ready to shop for the giant selection of books, movies, audio books and other library materials that will be on sale at the Friends of the Stillwater Public Library Spring Book Sale April 19-22. The book sale is one of the events taking place during Stillwater’s Legends Weekend.

“It is entirely appropriate that the book sale takes place during this weekend,” said Lynda Reynolds, library director. “Not only is the book sale massive—one of the largest in the state, but the Friends of the Library who put on the sale are the best and most legendary support group the library could hope to have.”

Proceeds from the book sale go directly back to the library as funding for books, equipment and services that the library could not otherwise provide the community.

“Our spring reading series with David Grann is a good example of how the Friends and the book sale proceeds support library efforts,” said Reynolds. “We would not have been able to have many parts of that series without them.”

According to Reynolds, the sale’s popularity is due to a wide selection of books for all ages and interests, and also because of the pricing.

“Books are still just 25 cents for kids’ books, 50 cents for paperbacks and $1 for hardbacks, plus no sales tax is charged. You just can’t get books at those prices anymore, so it is a great time for people to clear their shelves and repopulate their bookcases.”

The book sale is held on the second floor of the library at 1107 S. Duck and starts Thursday, April 19 when Friends of the Library members can enjoy pre-sale shopping from 5 to 8 p.m.

Anyone is eligible to become a Friends member by paying $10 at the door. The annual membership provides advanced entrance to both the spring and fall sales. Preview shoppers are limited to a total of 100 items, including 50 children’s items.

The sale then opens to the general public on Friday, April 19 from noon to 8 p.m. and Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“If you can’t make it to the Thursday preview, don’t worry,” said Reynolds. “There are thousands and thousands of items to last shoppers throughout the weekend.”

The closing day sale, Sunday, April 22, from 1:30-4 p.m., is a special event where bags full of books go for $1. Bags will be provided to shoppers who can then fill them with whichever books they select. There is no limit to the number of bags shoppers can purchase.

Donations of items for the Friends’ sale are accepted all year long during the library’s business hours. Donations should be brought directly to the Stillwater Public Library. Carts are available and staff can assist as needed. Donation receipts can also be requested.
