Modella Gallery is pleased to present Observations: Bloodgood and Bonifield, a compilation of work by two artists, Dean Bloodgood and Jay Bonifield. The exhibit will open March 8, 2018.

Stillwater resident, Dean Bloodgood observes nature and relates it to every day discovery of light and time. “Keeping track of where the light hits each day from season to season gives one the perspective that time doesn’t stand still and our world is ever changing.”

Bloodgood works primarily in oils on a large scale. He received his Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of Texas in Austin and MFA from Southern Cal in 1960.  Following his university education, Bloodgood supported himself with various jobs and continued to develop his painting and drawing. He taught for a year at the University of Illinois from 1962-63, returned to LA and then accepted a position at Oklahoma State University where he taught for 41 years. His work is included in the permanent collections of the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, Philbrook Museum of Art, City of El Paso as well as many private collections. His work has been featured in solo, group, juried, and invitational exhibits throughout the southwest from Texas to California.

Jay Bonifield states that spiritual, experimental, and process oriented are his visual discoveries. Through painting, they have lead, for nearly fifty years, to the continually expanding array of vistas, curiosities and beauties in life’s experience. Objectivity has given way to a local, subjective point of view that evokes mnemonic interpretations, intuitive inventions, and sublime projections. This viewpoint appreciates the limit of sight and the transcendental nature of visual perceptions. It involves looking past the material, objective world and perceiving with our minds’ eye open to the Spiritual Reality. “It speaks of truths that are always with us, though seldom seen and apt to be unnoticed,” said the Lawton, OK artist.
