The Stillwater High School Pioneer Marching Band competed Saturday afternoon in the Owasso Invitational Marching Contest in Owasso, Okla. This was their first competition for this marching season. Bands from across Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, and Kansas performed.

The Pioneer Marching Band placed third in their division with a crowd-pleasing performance. The top twelve scoring bands from prelims performed in the finals round Saturday evening, and Stillwater finished in 9th place overall.

This year’s show is titled “God Save the Queen” and includes popular selections from the rock band Queen mixed with classical music from various British composers.  The show has been popular with crowds at Stillwater High School football home games this season.

“I am very proud of the students’ performances on Saturday,” said Director of Bands, Kevin Zamborsky. “There was some nervousness from several of the students prior to the first performance, but they really settled in for their finals run. Performing our show at a competition is a very rewarding experience for our students. They get the opportunity to play for a captive audience that is there specifically to watch marching bands, and understands and appreciates all of the work that goes into their show.”
The band’s next competition is the Mustang Nightrider Invitational on October 7th at Mustang High School. According to Mr. Zamborsky, “We’re very excited to get our students back out on the competitive stage. They had a great first experience Saturday, and they’re eager to go to the next performance. We’re hoping to add a significant portion of the show for this coming Saturday.”
