MEDIA RELEASE

(STILLWATER, OKLA., Sept. 6, 2016) — Friends of the Stillwater Public Library will host its annual sales-tax-free Fall Used Book sale Thursday, Sept. 22, through Sunday, Sept. 25.  Thousands of used hardbacks, paperbacks, children’s books, and videos will be available for purchase.

“The Friends Sale has something for everyone,” said library director Lynda Reynolds.  “Hard to find novels, mysteries, local history, kids’ books, cookbooks, science fiction, travel, religion and much more.  It’s all there.”

The sale will be held on the second floor of the Stillwater Public Library’s meeting room building.  Books will be priced at $1 for hardbacks, 50 cents for paperbacks, DVDs, and other media and 25 cents for children’s books. Cash and checks are accepted.

The sale begins with a “Members Only Preview” on Thursday, Sept. 22, from 5 to 8 p.m.  Friends of the Library membership is open to everyone and will be available at the door or during business hours at the Stillwater Public Library.  Membership is $10 per year.  Buyers at the preview sale are limited to 100 books, including 50 children’s books.

The sale continues on Friday and Saturday when it opens to the general public.  Hours for the public sale are Friday noon-8 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

On Sunday, Sept. 25, the Friends host a $1 per bag sale where an entire bag of books of the buyer’s choosing is available for $1. The number of bags purchased is not limited.  The bag sale runs from 1:30-4 p.m.

“Proceeds from the book sale go right back into the library,” Reynolds said.  “With the Friends hard work and the public’s support in purchasing books, the library is able to fund substantially more eBooks, summer programming, year round activities and innumerable other projects. The Friends of the Library are making it possible for our community to have materials and programs that we otherwise could never have.”

The Friends of the Library work all year collecting and sorting gently used books which largely come from public donations.  Donation bins are located in each lobby of the library where books, DVDs, CDs and magazines are accepted year round.  Tax receipts are available.
