MEDIA RELEASE
Have you ever thought about giving back to our community? Have you ever run into a brick wall when trying to figure out how you can make a difference? Many adults would like to volunteer their time to benefit the youth in our community, but how and where?
Becoming a “BIG” for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma is a great way to have a positive impact on a child’s life. “BIGS” make an incredible difference in the lives of “Littles”. The statistics are staggering. According to BBBS.org, 46% of children with an active role model are less likely to begin using illegal drugs, 52% are less likely to skip school, and 33% are less likely to hit another child.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Oklahoma is looking for “BIGS” who can commit to a few hours every month. You may be thinking “I’m not a role model”, or “How can I impact a child’s life in a positive way?” Your job as a “BIG” is to help open a child’s eyes to a world of possibilities that they can hardly imagine. You will help benefit and shape “Littles” lives in small ways. Pick your “Little” up after school and go for a walk, show your “Little” a healthy work environment, or spend time introducing your “Little” to friends and family. With a small investment of time, you can make a transformative impact on the life of a child.
It’s easy to start. Volunteer online at bbbsok.org/volunteer. You will be contacted by an enrollment specialist whose sole job is to make sure they match you with a “Little” who can benefit from your life experience! After you’ve been approved, you will receive a profile of a child with similar interests and you will be coached on how to start your relationship.
Are you ready to start something “BIG”?
