In cooperation with the Stillwater Medical Foundation, McDonald’s of Stillwater sponsored the Healing Through Art Contest. The competition invited Stillwater Public School students to create original artwork to bring awareness to the Stillwater Cancer Center Project. The Cancer Center is being renovated to help patients heal in comfort close to home and provide them with the latest advances in treatment and care. The contest rules established three divisions, each of which were assigned a theme.

From 75 entries, first and second places were selected by a committee. Finalists of each division were also chosen by the committee to be placed online for voting to determine a People’s Choice award. Almost 1,300 votes were cast. Congratulations to:

Grades 3-5, Theme “Peace”: 1st Place-Taylor Longan, Highland Park Elementary; 2nd Place-Mallory Mason, Sangre Ridge Elementary; People’s Choice-Olivia Price, Skyline Elementary

The first place winners each received $100 and chose a teacher to receive a matching award for classroom needs. Bri Ozment of Highland Park Elementary, Crista McCann of Stillwater Middle School, and Susan Yeager of Stillwater Junior High School were selected. Second place received $75, and People’s Choice received $50. Stillwater Medical Center Foundation would like to thank Biff and Sue Horrocks, owners of McDonald’s of Stillwater, for sponsoring this unique opportunity for students to benefit the community. “This contest gave students a unique opportunity to give to their community. They have made an impact that they will be able to see for a very long time,” stated Sue.

Scott Petty, executive director of the SMC Foundation and Sue Horrocks, McDonald’s, presented each of the students with a certificate and their prize. The first place winners’ art will be printed onto greeting cards, which will be sold in the Stillwater Medical Center gift shop. Proceeds will go to the Cancer Center. The cards will also be used as a gift to thank donors.

The Stillwater Medical Foundation appreciates every student who entered, as well as the teachers and schools for participating in the Healing Through Art Contest.
