Be a Tourist in Your Own Community in a Winter Wonderland

EDITOR’S UPDATE: Due to unseasonably warm weather, Stillwater’s Winter Wonderland opening has been been postponed until December 1, 2017.

Last year we launched the series “Be a Tourist in Your Own Community” highlighting tips and suggestions about experiencing unique events and attractions in your own backyard. It’s here, it’s happening, and by now you’ve most certainly driven past  224 W. 9th Avenue, home to Stillwater’s first ever 39-day holiday event, in the heart of Downtown.  As a Stillwater local, we have no doubt you have already heard about Winter Wonderland’s arrival and most importantly, we hope you’ve already moseyed over to see what the lights, and ice, and reindeer games are all about in Stillwater this season. It’s exciting! In fact, it’s more than exciting…it’s pure magic and we want you to make the most of every Winter Wonderland moment right in your own backyard.  Here are a few of our favorite tips to maximize the holiday fun factor this season.

Take your PASS!

Stillwater’s Winter Wonderland 4,900 square foot ice skating rink is open daily through January 1.  Why not snag a season pass and get on the ice as much as possible—especially during Christmas break. Season passes are only $75 and include skate rentals each time you come to the ice. Your pass can be purchased at the Visit Stillwater office Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.  We will snap your photo and either make your pass on the spot or have it waiting for you at the ice skating rink the next time you arrive.

Make it Big!

Take your holiday party to the next level with a private ice-skating party! Although limited time slots are available, there is still an opportunity to gather your friends and family for a 2-hour reserved block of time.  Bulk discount tickets are also available if you want to get your skate on during regular ice-skating hours with a group of eleven or more fellow skaters.

Take on the Town!

Gift an over-the-top Winter Wonderland experience to family headed to Stillwater for the holidays or make a true staycation with one of our overnight packages.  Packages come with either a one or two night hotel stay, four ice rink tickets, Stillwater memorabilia, and gift cards to restaurants, retailers, and additional Stillwater attractions.  To purchase a Winter Wonderland overnight package, call the Visit Stillwater office at 405-743-3697.

Guest Appearances!

From figure skaters to OSU athletes, the ice rink will be bustling with special guests throughout the season.  A full schedule of slated guest appearances  can be found at VisitStillwater.org/holidays so you don’t miss a selfie with one of our many local celebrities.

We give a special thank you and appreciation to our community partners, Stillwater Chamber of Commerce, Stillwater Medical Center, Harrison Electric, TV-31, Stillwater News Press, Payne County Economic Development Authority, and Downtown Stillwater BID #1 for their partnership in bringing Stillwater’s Winter Wonderland to our community this holiday season.
