MEDIA RELEASE

(STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA / Aug. 12, 2016) – Kick off Labor Day weekend with the City of Stillwater at the Chickasaw Boomer Blast fireworks show Friday, Sept. 2 at Boomer Lake Park (Lakeview Road and Washington Street).

In lieu of the event, the Sept. 2 edition of Downtown Stillwater’s Friday Food Trucks and Tunes will relocate to Boomer Lake to join in the festivities.

“We are excited to get to put on this celebration with our community, and we hope everyone can join us that Friday night,” said Stephanie Kinder, Boomer Blast coordinator. “We’d like to extend our appreciation to our event sponsors for their support of Boomer Blast, and we are thrilled to share the evening with our Friday Food Trucks and Tunes and Downtown Stillwater partners.”

Residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit back and enjoy the free firework show and more. Parking lots open at 5:30 p.m., the event, including music, inflatables, and food trucks, begins at 6 p.m. and the fireworks show starts at approximately 9:30 p.m. following the Stillwater High School football game.

Some of Stillwater’s most popular food truck vendors will attend, along with live musical entertainment from the Full Flava Kings.

In anticipation of the event, Boomer Lake Park will close at noon that day. Lakeview Road between Washington and Husband streets will also close at 4 p.m. to allow pedestrians to watch the fireworks show from the bridge. Lakeview will reopen later that night after the event.

In the event of inclement weather before or during the fireworks show, Chickasaw Boomer Blast will take place Sunday, Sept. 4. The City of Stillwater follows a contingency plan in the event of rain, which includes assessing whether the grass parking lots are able to support the anticipated 2,000 vehicles that come to Boomer Blast each year.

The City of Stillwater would like to thank Chickasaw Telecommunications Services, Oklahoma State University, Kicker, Stillwater Medical Center, Grand River Dam Authority, The Bank N.A., Central Electric Cooperative, Stillwater Chamber of Commerce, OnCue, RCB Bank, Stillwater Frontier Rotary, Stillwater Professional Firefighters Local 2095, Arvest Bank and Charlie’s Discount Drug for their sponsorships.
