Media Release

(STILLWATER, OKLAHOMA / Sept. 13, 2016) – The League of American Bicyclists recently recognized the City of Stillwater with a bronze level Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB) award, joining nearly 1,200 visionary businesses from across the country.

unnamed-5“We are excited that Stillwater is being acknowledged as a Bicycle Friendly Business,” Special Projects Director John McClenny said. “We recently created the Bicyclist and Pedestrian Ad Hoc Committee and hope to watch the level of participation from employees grow.”

Being bicycle friendly has helped the City promote health and wellness to all of its employees and visitors. The City encourages bicycling as an easy option for transportation and provides amenities such as secure bike parking and a public bicycle repair station.

With this award, the League of American Bicyclists recognizes the City’s investment in making the country a safer, happier and more sustainable place to live and work through bicycling.

Moving forward, the City will have access to a variety of tools and technical assistance from the League to become even more bicycle-friendly. When employees bike, great things happen: there’s a decreased carbon footprint, health care costs are reduced and the ability to connect to the vibrant town of Stillwater increases.

As a recognized BFB, the City joins a cutting-edge group of 1,232 local businesses, government agencies, and Fortune 500 companies in 49 states and Washington, D.C., that are transforming the American workplace.
