CASA for Kids Volunteer of the Month for February 2020

Story provided by CASA for Kids

This February, CASA honors Zack Whiting as Volunteer of the Month. Zach lives in Stillwater with his wife and three daughters. He has been a CASA for nearly two years. His first case, serving one child, is still ongoing.

Zach learned about CASA at the annual fundraising event. The gala, which takes place each spring, not only raises a significant percent of CASA’s operating budget but also connects a number of people to CASA’s work. The stories Zach heard at the event inspired him to learn more and ultimately get involved.

“Kids are the only thing in society who are completely innocent,” Zach said. “They don’t control their situation at all. It made me want to help as much as I could.”

He acknowledges that serving as a CASA takes both time and emotional energy. “It’s a commitment,” he said. “But if you can commit to this and give the time, it makes a difference.”

CASAs complete 30 hours of training before being sworn in and taking a case. The average time spent by a CASA volunteer is 8-10 hour each month. To learn more about what is involved in serving as a CASA, visit casaforkids.com or call 405-624-2242.
