CASA for Kids Volunteer of the Month for March 2020

Story provided by CASA for Kids

CASA’s March Volunteer of the Month is Carolyn Kornegay of Guthrie. She moved to Oklahoma in 1988 to work at Langston University and retired as the Dean of the School of Nursing.

After retirement, Carolyn was looking for something constructive to do. She decided to find a volunteer opportunity, and CASA was it. She has served as a volunteer for nearly five years and has worked three cases in that time.

“I know that every child needs a positive influence in their life,” she said. “If I don’t act on that, then I’m not living my best self.”

Like many CASAs, Carolyn feels she gets more out of the experience than she puts in.

“Most of us don’t realize the value of little things. There are little acts of kindness that can be really meaningful to others. We might think we don’t have anything to offer, but the little bit you have to give multiplies; the more you give, the more you have.”

If you are looking for a way to volunteer and make a huge impact, CASA can use your help. CASA is always seeking volunteers, but they also need Board members and committee members. They need friends and followers to amplify messages on social media. And, of course, as a 501(c)3 non-profit, they need donations.
