Story and Photos by CASA for Kids Serving Payne and Logan Counties
Joyce Martin is CASA’s August Volunteer of the Month. Joyce, a retired nurse, serves in Logan County and has been a CASA for about a year. She is already assigned to her second case serving two children. After her first case closed with an adoption, she quickly took on another. “There is such a need,” she said. “So many kids are hurting. You want to do anything you can do to help the kiddos, to give them a glimpse of normalcy and let them know they are loved.”
Serving as a CASA is a rewarding experience, and it can be eye-opening as well. “I’ve always known I lived in a bubble; I just didn’t realize how thick my bubble was,” Joyce said. “I had no idea how many hurting families there were in our community.”
Supporting CASA is a great way to make an impact close to home. Our local chapter serves both Payne and Logan Counties. Court-appointed volunteers are sworn in to serve in their home county and can opt to be sworn in for both service areas. Donations made to your local CASA chapter support the work being done close to home. CASA helps build healthy families, and healthy families build stronger communities for everyone.
