Story and photos provided by CASA for Kids—Serving Payne and Logan Counties
This June, CASA presents a double honor for Volunteer of the Month. Danny and Autumn Lingerfelt serve together as partner CASAs. The couple were both born and raised in Guthrie where they still live. Autumn is a full-time college student, and her husband Danny works for Bowman’s Wrecker.
Autumn was the first to join; she’s been serving CASA since November 2017.
“I have a friend who was a CASA before me,” she said. “She loved being a CASA and helping children; she said it’s hard, but it’s fun. Then one day I saw a CASA booth at the health fair and decided it was time.”
Autumn’s first case ended well and left her eager to take on another. Danny was sworn in April 2018, and the couple took on the case as partner CASAs. “Our Case Supervisor helped pair us with case; she found one that was a perfect fit.”
According to Autumn, one of the best benefits of partnering with her husband on a case is being able to discuss the specifics with him. The work CASAs do is highly confidential. “I can talk to him about the details. We’re there for each other,” she said.
Community volunteers like Autumn and Danny are changing a child’s story with every case. If you would like to serve your community, new CASA training groups begin several times a year. Call 405-624-2242 or visit casaforkids.org to learn more.
