Story and photo provided by CASA for Kids of Payne and Logan Counties
CASA for Kids of Payne and Logan Counties is honoring Mrs. Heather Houle as the March Volunteer of the Month. Heather is originally from Wagoner, OK, where growing up her family cared for many foster children. Upon moving to Stillwater, a friend made her aware that CASA is always in need of volunteers and she said YES to the opportunity to be a voice for a child. Mrs. Houle has served one child from infancy on and is able to advocate for this child’s very best interest. She works with the biological parents, foster parents, and DHS to help her child thrive, not just survive. Heather has been able to bridge the gap between the family and the court system.
A court appointed special advocate (CASA) can sometimes be the most positive, objective, driving force between the needs and best interest of the child that has been removed from their home and resides in state custody. Heather has served as a CASA for a year and a half, throughout the entire pregnancy and birth of her own youngest child. She is a wife, photographer/business owner, and mother of three.
