Story provided by Stillwater Public Library
The final week of June is filled with summer fun as the Stillwater Public Library enters its fourth week of the summer reading program. The children’s program takes place on Tuesday with two showings at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The teen program will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Finally, June wraps up with an outdoor film for the whole family on Friday night at 9 p.m.
On Tuesday, June 27, kids can attend the “Better Together” show by Inspyral Circus. Performers and best friends Kelsey Nicole and Kamrynn, will perform feats of acrobatics, hand-balancing, glow dancing and juggling to show how much can be accomplished when people are helpful, kind and supportive.
According to Elizabeth Murray, children’s librarian, the acrobatic tricks of Inspyral Circus’ performers are always awe-inspiring.
“Kids and parents will be amazed by the performance,” Murray said. “This show will inspire everyone to learn new skills, get active and embrace the summer theme of ‘All Together Now.’”
Then on Wednesday, June 14, teens in grades 6-12 will meet at the library for a movie and craft. The library will show a classic G-rated film (title available on our website) that will have everyone saying, “Gotta catch ’em all!” During the movie, teens will keep busy by making miniature terrariums. Snacks will also be provided.
Teen librarian Jordan Stine hopes that the film, which features popular gaming characters, will bring teens with common interests together.
“The movie itself is also centered on friendship,” Stine said. “Seeing teens bond over the film and a love of the same characters will hopefully help give them a sense of community and friendship.”
Finally, on Friday, the whole family can gather in the library courtyard for an outdoor screening of a classic 1980s film that follows a group of teenagers who find a map leading to hidden treasure! The film is rated PG and runs approximately one hour and 54 minutes. Free popcorn and drinks will be available at the showing courtesy of the Friends of the Stillwater Public Library. Librarians recommend that attendees bring lawn chairs and blankets to sit on.
The library will be closed on Tuesday, July 4, in observance of the Fourth of July, and summer reading programs will be suspended for the week of Independence Day. Programs will resume starting the week of July 10.
