From the Editor (November edition)

by Ammie Bryant, Editor

Getting into the right frame of mind to put together the first issue of the holiday season has been a bit difficult. As I write this, very few leaves have fallen from the trees, and recently the temps have been in the 80s and 90s. Aug-tober has been brutal. I’m so ready for those cooler fall temperatures that October used to guarantee each year. Surely they will come in November?

While putting the November issue together, we made a mini-Thanksgiving dinner so that we could take some pictures of my mother-in-law’s dressing recipe. Be sure to check out “Thanksgiving Recipe Traditions,” which is a bit of a tribute to my husband’s late mother, who we lost earlier this year.

I also watched “The Polar Express” to help get into the spirit of the season. This month brings an exciting addition to our town when the Eastern Flyer’s The Polar Express Train Ride begins operations out of the Stillwater Santa Fe Train Depot. The Stillwater Station hasn’t seen passenger train service since 1953. This is historic!

We really have a great issue this month and we hope you enjoy it. I’ve said it before, I love Stillwater and I love sharing its stories. We think of Stillwater Living as a snapshot of some of the great and inspiring things going on throughout our community. We are truly blessed to live in such a creative, friendly, and inspiring place.

Speaking of great things going on throughout the community, the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce and participating organizations kick off the Jingle Bells Sweepstakes this month on November 11. Look for the Chamber’s ad in this issue to see a list of the participating businesses and be sure to Shop Local to support each one between November 11 and December 19 to collect Jingle Bells Tickets.

You can earn Jingle Bells tickets from Stillwater Living by purchasing a subscription–this can be a renewal, a new subscription, or a gift. If you purchase a one year subscription for $14.95 you will receive 15 Jingle Bells Tickets. Purchase a two year subscription for $24.95 and receive 25 Jingle Bells Tickets.  Be sure to find us and like us on Facebook (@StillwaterLiving) and Twitter and Instagram (@STWLivingMag) because each day we will announce additional ways to collect Jingle Bells Tickets through those Social Media platforms.  Hint: You’ll need a current copy of Stillwater Living to help you win some of those additional tickets.

Be sure to subscribe or renew before the end of December, the discounted prices listed above will no longer be available in 2017. So sign up for a year (or two!) of Stillwater Living delivered directly to your door today!

Happy Thanksgiving friends! We truly wish everyone a peaceful holiday season full of gratitude, joy, and love.
