Interwoven Exhibition opens at Modella Gallery

A new exhibition displaying work by artist Randy Seitsinger opens at the Modella Gallery on October 4, 2018. “Interwoven” runs from October 4 – November 17, 2018, with the opening reception from 6-8pm Thursday, October 4th. Seitsinger explores the everyday condition of Oklahoma, and the essence of the hidden beauty of conventionally ugly places through impressive perceptual painting and drawing.

About his method for finding locations of interest in Oklahoma, Seitsinger said, “Sometimes I will intentionally take road trips to try and find subjects, other times I just happen on someplace that strikes me. Whenever I travel anywhere, I am always looking for interesting places that speak to me. The paintings in this show are deeply embedded in a sense of place and my intention is to express the essence of the character of that place as clearly and honestly as possible. I paint what I see and feel.” Seitsinger received his undergraduate and graduate architecture degrees at Oklahoma State University and worked as an architect in New York City and Chicago before returning to Stillwater in 1987 to join the OSU School of Architecture faculty. He served as Head of the School of Architecture from 1995-2016 and has served as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in the College of Engineering, Architecture, and Technology since 2016. Seitsinger has been painting since undergraduate school and takes inspiration from his extensive traveling, and from Oklahoma.

When asked how his style has evolved over time Seitsinger explains, “My formal academic training is in architecture, not painting, and my growth as an architect and architectural educator has paralleled my interest and growth in painting. One influences the other. Certainly over time and with experience, I have become a better draughtsman and more confident in my ability to control paint to create the image that I want. I have developed confidence, through much practice in drawing from life and onsite, that I can represent what I see and find a way of expressing it in a painting. This allows me to focus more on what it is that I truly see and what I want to express.” Seitsinger’s paintings, drawings, and photographs have been displayed in the OSU SOA Gallery, the Design Communication Conference exhibition, and the Design Communication Association national conference multiple times. Additionally his work has been featured in the Malinda Berry Fischer Gallery, the Town and Gown Community Theater, and The AIA Central Oklahoma Gallery.
