The second half of the Stillwater Public Library’s summer reading program, “All Together Now,” continues with children and teen programs on Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the month. The last adult programs will take place on Thursday, July 13, and Saturday, July 15. Participants of all ages can keep recording reading points for grand prize drawing entries until Saturday, July 22.
The Tuesday, July 11, children’s program features Kevin Wade’s magic show. Wade will perform at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., with fun magical feats focusing on kindness, friendship and unity with lots of audience participation and surprises.
Teens going into grades 6-12 will work with Tiny Paws Kitten Adoption to create cute crafts and toys for kittens to either bring home to their cats or donate to the kittens at Tiny Paws. Craft options include cat beds, kitten wands, wine cork play toys and more. The program takes place on Wednesday, July 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the library.
Then on Thursday, July 13, the indoor children’s movie follows the adventures of a New York middle-schooler named Emily and her little red puppy, which grows very big, that a magical animal rescuer gifts her. There are two showings of the 97-minute-long, PG-rated film at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
July’s first adult program is on Thursday, July 13, from 6 to 7 p.m., and teaches attendees how to make DIY cleaning supplies. OSU Extension Educator Dea Rash will discuss household cleaning supplies, their safety and effectiveness and how to make them at home. Participants will get to make a product to take home with them.
The last adult program of the summer features the “Yard by Yard Project” on Saturday, July 15, from 10 to 11 a.m. Anita Kaufman from the Payne County Conservation District will explain the importance of nature-friendly yards and small things that people can do to help like increasing mowing height, using rain barrels and more.
Brenna Gilchrist, adult services librarian, is pleased to announce that adults can add their names to additional prize drawings for attending adult summer reading programs in July.
“The most exciting extra giveaway is that adults who attend programs will get entered into a drawing to win OSU vs. Kansas State football tickets for Oct. 6,” Gilchrist said. “Every program attended equals a chance in the drawing. We’re very thankful for Orange and Black Gives Back for their generous donation.”
Additionally, there will be two giveaways at the end of the last two adult programs for small prizes, including one-week memberships to Hotworx, $5 off coupons for Red Earth Yoga and a $15 gift card for Jimmy’s Egg.
