The Stillwater Public Library (SPL) will host a “Reader’s Theater” series throughout the month of February for children ages 7-12 to learn how to read scripts and perform popular stories with their peers. This program will take place on Mondays from 4-5 p.m. Registration is required and space for the program is limited.

Avery Volk, one of SPL’s children’s services assistants, is excited to lead this program.

“Acting out stories is a great way for children to increase reading fluency and have fun while doing it,” Volk said. “The main goal is for young readers to explore their creative side through a new method of reading.”

Each week, attendees will get a new script to practice throughout the hour. Kids will also be able to choose their roles and perform onstage. In the first week, they will read and perform “The Greatest Show on Earth,” a re-enactment of the circus full of lions, tigers and bearded ladies. 

“I am very excited to be able to utilize our auditorium throughout this series,” Volk said. “I’m positive that all who attend will love being able to perform on stage as real actors.” 

Registration for “Reader’s Theater” can be found at library.stillwater.org/register.php. Registrants will receive an email reminder and updates about the upcoming script. Those interested can also stop by the Library or call the Children’s Help Desk at (405) 372-3633 x8108 with any questions.
