Makeover Masterpiece

Story and images provided by LaRitz Salon & Spa

Richelle Sigrist grew up in Fort Smith, Arkansas and moved to Stillwater in the fall of 2001. She and her amazing husband, Jason have 3 children: Caleb – 20, Claudia – 19, and Conner – 12. Jason has worked with Stillwater Designs/Kicker for over 23 years and Richelle has been a hairstylist for over 15 years until this February when she decided it was time to retire. In 2007, Richelle opened The Vine Salon & More and operated it for 7 exciting years during her time as a cosmetologist. Since retirement, Richelle has stepped toward a different passion as a singer/songwriter and has been enjoying many opportunities to perform regularly in the surrounding area.

Her husband is an incredible partner in life, but also in her career. He is not only Richelle’s main squeeze, but he’s also her manager, booking agent, sound technician, roadie…you name it! Richelle says that she couldn’t do it all without Jason by her side. She has served as a worship leader off and on for over 20 years and has found it to be where her heart feels at home. Music comes natural for Richelle, so it only makes sense that she would honor her God with it. She is currently serving at Hope.Church in Cushing, Oklahoma and is building new relationships as well as growing in her spirit.

Richelle is also working on the development of her first album (Eyes of a Stranger) to be released this winter. Her writing style is a blend of soul, blues, rock, and folk. The thing she loves the most about music is how it can be so powerful in regards to the human spirit. She believes there is a healing element that music can provide simply because it affects us so deeply. She can hear the opening line of Van Morrison’s “Into the Mystic” and automatically feel a calm come over her. It takes Richelle back to her childhood to a time when things were much simpler. She wants to offer that to people. She wants to brighten someone’s day when it’s cloudy outside. She wants to offer understanding to someone who has gone through the loss of a loved one and tell them it’s okay to feel angry for while. And she wants to offer hope to someone who is unsure of what love truly is as they question whether or not they will ever find it for themselves. That is something Richelle loves about the gift she’s been given. She says it’s truly an honor to write a song and know it is meant to touch another human’s soul.

With all of these exciting things happening in Richelle’s life, she was needing a fresh new look. It had been some time since her hair had the attention it deserves. It had become dull, brassy, and lifeless. Richelle trusted Brooklyn Lane to revive her hair. The first thing Brooklyn needed to do was perform a clarifying treatment to remove any buildup from products and hard water. This puts the hair in the best shape to evenly accept color. Brooklyn chose a more neutral color palette for Richelle. It was very important to add the shine back to her hair so Brooklyn chose to use a shiny gloss color for the mid lengths and ends. Because Richelle loves to have dimension throughout her hair, Brooklyn used a “foilayage” technique when applying her lighter pieces. This gives the hair a more “lived in” look compared to traditional foil highlights. Brooklyn was able to add depth, dimension, and shine back into Richelle’s hair, making it look much healthier. With a new color, a fresh haircut completed the look. Her current cut had grown out and needed to be revamped. Brooklyn shortened her layers quite a bit and added texture to encourage volume at the crown. This highly layered look exposed the internal highlights, adding even more visual dimension. To style, Brooklyn applied Redken’s Pillow Proof Primer Cream on the ends and sprayed her root area with Pureology’s Instant Levitation Mist. After Richelle’s hair was round-brushed, Brooklyn used the BioIonic Style Iron to add soft waves.
