Makeover Masterpiece

Story by LaRitz Salon and Spa

This December’s makeover is Kayle Bearpaw. She is a freshman at Oklahoma State University. Kayle said her hair is her favorite thing and she enjoys doing other people’s hair, too. Her family members are her biggest supporters in every way.

Before

When Kayle came in for her appointment, she had a grown-out balayage that needed refreshing. Instead of just touching up her current look, Kayle told her stylist, Allie, that she had decided to do something different; she wanted to go lighter and brighter with her balayage. Allie knew that with Kayle’s hair density and length, it was going to be a process. Allied applied a very heavily saturated full head of balayage. After it was lifted to the desired lightness, Allie used a toner to counteract any unwanted warmth. She then trimmed Kayle’s hair to eliminate split ends. Allie applied Redken’s Pillow Proof Primer spray generously to help speed up the blow-dry time. Extreme Play Safe was also used on Kayle’s damp hair to protect it from the heat of the blow dryer. Allie also dried Kayle’s hair using a round brush to create smoothness. To finish the look, Allie used Iron Shape heat protector and curled Kayle’s hair.

After

Kayle hardly ever wears makeup so our esthetician, Kelsey, wanted to keep her look natural. First, Kelsey used BareMinerals Prime Time, a foundation primer. She followed that with a light application of the Original powder foundation in Golden Medium. Kelsey then applied Skinny Dip and Natural High for depth and blush color. She also used Glow highlighter. For Kayle’s eyeshadow, Kelsey chose warm tones in a matte finish. The liner applied was actually a soft brown shadow, creating a soft smoky look. Kelsey did not apply mascara because Kayle gets lash extensions from Allie. Kelsey said that lash extensions and tinted brows do most of the work so light shadow and powder foundation was all Kayle needed.
