Our first makeover of 2017 is Dorothy Pugh. After twenty-seven years as an editor at newspapers around the country, Dorothy returned to her alma mater, Oklahoma State University, where she works for University Marketing. She edits a variety of college magazines and other marketing materials. She is an animal lover who also enjoys interior design, traveling, books and music. Dorothy has a 14-year-old Aussie shepherd, named Sadie, along with her cats. She says they all get along amazingly well!
Dorothy was referred to Brooklyn Lane at LaRitz Salon & Spa for a complicated color correction. When Dorothy came to LaRitz, her hair had an inch of gray new growth and grown-out, whitish, frizzy ends. Her goal was a rich, warm red with golden highlights. Brooklyn knew it would not be an easy feat but she was more than ready for the challenge. With Dorothy’s hair being so light to begin with, Brooklyn had to “fill” her hair by replacing the missing golden pigment. After this step, Brooklyn applied a natural red brown to her regrowth for gray coverage, a corresponding demi-permanent shade for the lowlight, and a mild lightener for her highlights. This added the depth and dimension that Dorothy’s hair was lacking. The warm color palette was extremely complementary to her fair skin and blue eyes. For the haircut, Brooklyn added shorter layers and trimmed the length. Before drying, Brooklyn used Redken’s Stay High gel to mousse for high hold volume. Brooklyn wanted to showcase how the color would look in multiple styles so she smoothed out Dorothy’s natural wave with a round brush and added curls to showcase the dimensional color.
Marie Felder worked with Dorothy for her makeup application. The first step was to prime Dorothy’s face with bareMinerals PrimeTime foundation primer. Marie then applied Complexion Rescue in Vanilla all over to give her skin a glow. New BarePRO foundation in Dawn was swept on with the Core Coverage brush. The Confession blush was applied to Dorothy’s cheeks and Pale/Ash Blonde eyebrow powder helped define her brows. bareMinerals READY 8.0 eyeshadow palette had the perfect colors to complement Dorothy’s blue eyes. Lash Domination mascara finished the eyes. For Dorothy’s lips, Marie first lined them with GenNude Borderline and filled in with Bubbles lip color. Original Mineral Veil completed the look.
Dorothy has heard an outpouring of compliments since receiving her new look. Her friends and family have said, “I have such hair envy right now!”, “You look like a celebrity!” and “Those locks rock!” She even had over 200 likes on the before-and-after pictures she posted on Facebook!
