Luke Cheatwood is moving from student to teacher.

Cheatwood, a student in the Digital Media program at Meridian Technology Center, hopes to inspire future filmmakers with his presentation, Dream Bigger: Introduction to Filmmaking, at the Stillwater Public Library on Saturday, October 12 at 1 p.m.

Topics covered will include an overview of the filmmaking process, idea generation, scriptwriting, production and editing. Cheatwood will teach the course using “Dream Bigger,” a film he produced last year as a student at Meridian.

“Dream Bigger” highlighted Cheatwood’s aspirations to become a feature film director. The film won first place at the state and national level in contests through Business Professionals of America, a CareerTech student organization associated with the Digital Media program at Meridian.

“The creative process is what I enjoy most about filmmaking,” Cheatwood said. “You get to make your own world, and every movie is an opportunity to bring other people into that world.”

The October 12 class was initially a prep program for the upcoming National PTA Reflections Art in Education program, a competition that encourages creative work in visual arts, photography, literature, film/video production, dance choreography and music. It is now open to anyone who has an interest in filmmaking. There is no cost to attend but attendees should register at bit.ly/2LNZiF2.
