Home-schooled, private school, and virtual school students in the Meridian Technology Center district will have an opportunity to learn about career training at Tech during an information session on November 19.

“Tech expands a student’s options and opportunities,” said Jeanie Zagar, Executive Director of Career Planning/Career Development. “This event will help us share our story and application process with all eligible students and families within the district.”

The informational session will take place at 1 p.m. in the Fred A. Shultz Conference Center. It will include a presentation on Meridian’s 20 plus career training programs, discussion about how students can earn high school credit for their time at Tech and ways to earn college credit for work completed at Meridian. Students will also learn about Meridian’s CareerTech Student Organizations and leadership opportunities.

A key component of the presentation will focus on the application process, entrance requirements and additional documentation needed for students who do not attend public school. Attendees will also have the chance to sign up for Meridian’s Sophomore Showcase, an interactive recruitment day where prospective students get to spend time in up to three programs.

“Each fall, we work with our public-school partners to talk to sophomores and juniors about how Tech can help them reach their career goals,” Zagar said. “With so many educational options available to students, we haven’t had a similar opportunity to connect and share with students who are not in public school. We want to change that, and we hope this event will help.”

How Tech Works

High school, home-schooled, and virtual school students who live in the Agra, Carney, Glencoe, Guthrie, Morrison, Mulhall-Orlando, Pawnee, Perkins-Tryon, Perry and Stillwater school districts can attend Meridian tuition-free during their junior and senior years. The Biomedical Sciences and Pre-Engineering STEM Academies are open to sophomores, juniors and seniors. Sophomores can enroll for afternoon programs when space is available. Many of Meridian’s programs offer one- and two-year options.

Students spend a half day at their home high school experience and half day with Meridian in hands-on courses. Meridian is tuition free for high school students who live in the district and includes free transportation from their local public high school. Students can receive credits for high school courses in a variety of academics or as electives.

Class sizes at Meridian are small, with most having a 21 to one student/teacher ratio allowing students to focus on what they are passionate about. One in five eligible students attends Meridian, and they are finding success when they do. More than 90% of Meridian students continue their education or go right to work after Tech.

The enrollment process for high school students will begin in January 2020. The priority application deadline is February 3. Applications will be accepted after that date as long as space is available. For information on any of Meridian’s 20 plus career training programs visit meridiantech.edu/programs.
