Oklahoma Municipal Alliance recognizes City of Stillwater Employee and Electric Utility

Media Release

The Oklahoma Municipal Alliance (OMA) recognized Dana Mattox, City of Stillwater, as the recipient of the association’s Drake Rice Customer Service Award at the 2021 Public Power Conference in Norman, OK.

Established in 2017, the OMA award recognizes individuals who best exemplify the qualities of a true customer service professional. It is named for Drake Rice, long time Director of Member Services for the Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority and former city manager in Oklahoma communities.

Mattox is widely recognized for exemplifying the customer service attributes of a positive attitude towards customers and co-workers and a personal commitment to always giving her best in every situation. She also is known throughout city hall and her community for her responsiveness and a ready smile.

During her 41-year career with the city, customer service has always been a way of life for Mattox. When her city wanted to develop an employee-driven culture of customer service across the city, her name topped the list of employees who exemplify customer service.

Leading a team of 16 employees from across the city’s departments, they developed the city’s Standards of Excellence for customer service. These six standards are: Connected, Performance-driven, Proud, Respectful, Responsive, and Trustworthy. She lives these standards, teaches them to others and holds all within her department accountable to living these ideals.

“No matter the circumstances, Dana’s professionalism and desire to help comes across in all her dealings with customers. Her desire is to find solutions that work for all parties,” said Stillwater City Manager Norman McNickle. “We value her leadership and service and congratulate Dana on this extreme honor and recognition.”

The Clarence Fulkerson Award

For its commitment to improving its service and reliability to its citizens and customers, OMA also recognized Stillwater Electric Utility and the City of Stillwater as a recipient of the 2021 Clarence Fulkerson Award.

The Fulkerson Award recognizes and honors a public power system that works to effectively improve their system operations, resulting in improved reliability and long-term cost savings for its customers. The award was named for Ponca City’s long-time utility director.

Making a public commitment to its citizens to do just that, our first 2021 Fulkerson recipient made great strides in system reliability and standardization beginning in 2018.

From March 2018 through June 2020, this system –

·         Developed a plan to replace six transformers in three substations.

·         Standardized the new transformers by installing 28 MVA which increased redundancy in each substation, allowing for more reliable power delivery.

·         Quickly and effectively responded to a transformer failure in a fourth substation with additional engineering and change out contracts.

·         These efforts resulted in seven new transformers which will serve the utility’s customers for years to come.
