Kids have the opportunity to get up close and personal with bugs when OSU Insect Adventure brings its dead bug collection to Stillwater Public Library’s “Try-It Tuesday” on Jan. 15 from 3:30-5:30 p.m.
According to Andrine Shufran, director of OSU Insect Adventure, the session will give families a chance to ask burning questions, such as “Do all roly-polies roll?” and “What are three important differences between millipedes and centipedes?”
But there is another reason families should attend.
“It is important for ALL people to learn about arthropods,” Shufran said. “These animals are the largest, most diverse and most impactful group of animals on Earth.”
For families who prefer not to spend the afternoon with bugs, children’s librarian Elizabeth Murray suggests trying out some of the other “Try-It Tuesday” sessions. The program features a project, science activity or craft on a new topic each week. Upcoming “Try-It Tuesday” programs include:
- Jan. 22 – “Space”
- Jan. 29 – “Sense of Taste”
- Feb. 5 – “Lego Challenge” (repeats on the first Tuesday of each month)
Parents can find out about upcoming program topics by check the library’s Facebook events or by picking up a monthly children’s calendar.
“’Try-It Tuesday’ is the perfect environment for kids to discover their latest obsession,” said Murray. “By offering a wide range of hands on activities throughout the year each child is sure to find something that peaks their interest and then we can help them find a book to continue the learning.”
