Partnership and Training to Better Prepare for Emergencies

Story provided by City of Stillwater

To better prepare for emergencies, the Oklahoma National Guard’s 63rd Civil Support Team will be conducting joint hazmat and law enforcement exercises August 17 and 18 in Stillwater and Cushing.

The team has coordinated efforts with emergency managers from Payne County, City of Stillwater, Oklahoma State University (OSU) and other participating communities. The training will be at O’Brate Stadium on OSU’s campus and at a rural residence near Hwy 33 in Cushing.

The purpose of the training is to increase and refine partnerships between local, state and federal agencies to increase collaborative efforts when responding to incidents involving hazardous materials. The exercise is not COVID-19 related and has been in coordination for several months.

The exercises will be conducted away from heavily populated areas and will not disrupt traffic, but some activities will be noticeable. Residents should not enter areas marked “Exercise in Progress” or “TRAINING” to ensure their personal safety and prevent training interruptions.

For additional information regarding the training and activities, contact Stillwater Emergency Manager Rob Hill at (405) 880-7054, rob.hill@stillwater.org, or Oklahoma State University Emergency Manager Dan Ray at (405) 744-0471, dan.ray@okstate.edu.
