Poetry Reading and Artist Talk coming up at Modella

Poetry Reading, Thur., Jan. 16 at 6:30 p.m.

Don Stinson

Don Stinson, NSU and OSU graduate will provide a poetry reading on Thur., Jan. 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Modella Gallery, 721 S. Main, Stillwater.

Stinson teaches writing and literature at Northern Oklahoma College and helps organize and sponsor the annual Chikaskia Literary Festival each fall. He also sits on the board of the North Central Oklahoma Arts Council.

Stinson has been writing poems, short stories, and one-act plays for over three decades, with work appearing in Slant, Concho River Review, Riverrun, Westview, Southwestern American Literature, and many other print and online journals. He has been a featured poet throughout Oklahoma and has also done readings in Texas, Illinois, Minnesota, and Washington state as well as participating in several collaborations with musicians and visual artists.

His first book, Flatline Horizon , was published by Norman’s Mongrel Empire Press in 2018. He is currently working on his next collection, Black Dog, which will be published sometime in 2020.

Artist Talk, Sun., Jan. 19 at 2 p.m.

Modella Gallery is pleased to have an artist talk on Sun., Jan. 19 at 2 p.m. as part of the “Starlight, Starbright”  group show on  exhibit through Jan. 25.

The artists included in the artist talk are Leslie Johnson, Jena Kodesh, Trace Logan, Brandon Mitts and  Cheryl Roach. Each artist has 10 minutes to discuss their creative process, where they started and where they might be going in their artistic evolution. This is an opportunity for each artist to showcase their work. Discussion is informal with time for questions.
