Quilts Galore! The Home Tour

Story and photos provided by Cimarron Quilters Guild

The Cimarron Valley Quilters’ Guild began in Stillwater in 1986 to promote the art of quilt making and to stimulate an interest in quilts.  Today the group of 104 members meets the first Tuesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. or 6:00 p.m. at 1023 East Will Rogers Drive in Stillwater.  The meetings in May and December are in the evenings only.  Lectures, demonstrations, and trunk shows are given at these meetings by local and nationally known quilters.

The guild enjoys giving back to the community each year.  Members of the guild make quilts for a number of local charities through the Quilts of Kindness project.  The goal of the guild is to make and distribute 100 quilts each year.  Some of the charities who have benefited from this project are Payne County Youth Services, Judith Karman Hospice, Mission of Hope, Habitat for Humanity, and Wings of Hope to name a few.  In times of local natural disasters such as tornados or fires, the group tries to pitch in with a donation of quilts as well.

Cimarron Valley Quilters’ Guild will be hosting a “Quilts Galore” Home Tour at five locations in southwest Stillwater, April 16-17, 2016.  Four homes on the tour as well as Primrose Retirement Center will host the display from 10 – 5 p.m. on Saturday and 12 noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.  Tickets are $5 in advance or $8 at the door (good for both days.)  Tickets include the locator map for the event and may be purchased at The Quilting Post, 717 South Main, Stillwater; Sew N Sews, 211 North Perkins Road, Stillwater or from any guild member.  There will also be a gift boutique, raffle quilt, members’ challenge display, and refreshments at the various locations.

Cimarron Valley Quilters’ Guild is a non-profit Stillwater-based organization.  A portion of the proceeds from this Quilt Show will go to a local charity.  For more information visit CVQG.org, e-mail at [email protected] or call 405-372-1039.
