Securely dispose of personal paperwork at Stillwater Public Library’s drive-thru shred Jan. 25th

The Stillwater Public Library will hold its free document shredding event on Saturday, Jan. 25. Cars can drive-thru the parking lot that connects the Library and Prairie Arts from 9-11 a.m. with two copy paper sized boxes of documents.

Shred-Away will once again provide the secure shredding service. Volunteers will be available to help direct traffic and unload documents that will be shredded on-site. Participants do not need to worry about removing paper clips or staples from their documents.

If you are unsure what to bring, Jeni Rogers, security expert author of the 2019 book “200+ Ways to Protect Your Privacy,” has some suggestions.

“Bank and credit card statements, medical bills or paperwork, insurance documents…these items may seem like harmless pieces of paper stacked on a table or crammed in a drawer, but they can each contain private information about you,” Rogers said.

For more information about documents to shred, participants are encouraged to speak with their attorney and accountant or to visit the websites listed on the library’s shredding event page at http://library.stillwater.org/annual_shredding_event.php.

The event is free, but donations will be accepted to help offset the cost of the shredder. This year, the Library will also welcome donations to help fund the next community-wide reading series, which will hopefully take place in the fall of 2020.

“The prospect of once again hosting a reading series is exciting,” said Stacy DeLano, library director. “I always learn so much from the community when we all read and talk about the same book.”
