*Spring Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event — CANCELLED

*Update: This event has been cancelled. See our Editor’s note at the bottom of this story for additional information.

Story provided by City of Stillwater

The City of Stillwater is holding its spring household hazardous waste collection event Saturday, April 25, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is at the City of Stillwater Convenience Collection Center at 807 S. Perkins Road.

During this event, residents are encouraged to drop off household pollutants free of charge, including oil-based paints, pesticides, herbicides, household cleaning products, pool chemicals, craft and hobby supplies, mixed fuels and fertilizer.

“These biannual events continue to provide residents with a simple way to properly dispose of household chemicals that protects the environment,” Environmental Programs Manager Chris Franks said.

In conjunction with this event, the Convenience Collection Center will receive tires, oil, antifreeze, automobile batteries and rechargeable batteries, scrap metal, latex paint, fluorescent bulbs, and other everyday recyclables, though a fee may apply for some services.

The event is also accepting unwanted pharmaceuticals again this year, although these products can be dropped off year-round at the Stillwater Police Department.

The center will not accept yard waste during the event’s hours (8 a.m. to 1 p.m.) but will start accepting it again from 1 to 4 p.m. after the special collection event concludes.

These events help residents reduce the number of household pollutants in their homes while ensuring these pollutants are disposed of properly. The City is also using this opportunity to bring awareness to residents about the recycling opportunities the center offers.

*Editor’s Note:  Shortly before uploading the April issue to the printer, many local businesses and organizations had begun announcing cancelations for events and activities due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic. We have chosen to run this original story about the annual Spring Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event. At the time of printing, we had not received notice regarding this event being canceled, but please be aware that the situation is rapidly developing and that could change. Please be sure to check back here or the City’s website at Stillwater.org for updates.
