Stillwater Community Center (SCC) Foundation’s Chair, James Beckstrom, announced the $235,000 fundraising goal was reached for the Stillwater Community Centers’ safety and accessibility improvement projects.
“Due to the generous donations from more than one hundred businesses and individuals, these projects will become reality and improve the lives of literally hundreds of community center users who have mobility challenges,” said Beckstrom.
The funding amount was based on anticipated construction costs. Projects include an accessibility ramp from the facility’s main parking lot into the main lobby, covered and safe passenger drop-off zone to accommodate passenger vehicles of all sizes, ramp connection between dining event hall and the main complex, and an additional bonus will be a small stage for performances near the parking lot.
Fundraising efforts were led by organizations who have a history of giving back to the Stillwater community.
“The sizeable beginning donation from the Faye Allene Rife Brown Foundation in early 2020 got funding moving forward. Then, this year’s Leadership Stillwater class took fundraising for this project as one of their missions. We are grateful for their efforts and strong push that helped us reach the goal,” Beckstrom included. “This improvement to the Center and the pending development of Block 34, we believe, will be transformational for our downtown and our community.”
The projects have been fully designed and engineered and will now go through the City’s construction bidding process. Funding will be released from the SCC Foundation to the City as construction progresses.
