The best way to get a child interested in learning is to read them a book. In recognition of the Rotary District’s Basic Education and Literacy month and September 8, 2018 as International Literacy Day, Stillwater Frontier Rotary launched a new service project designed to involved local Rotarians in the literacy of Stillwater children. On September 17, October 15, November 19, and December 17, Rotarians will visit four First Grade classrooms at Will Rogers Elementary to read and act out a storybook for the students. Books will be provided each month by the Will Rogers faculty and Rotarians will provide their own costuming and first-grade-worthy entertainment.

This project brings the potential to obtain a two-for-one grant that would provide library books for our area schools. Rotary Scholars and OSU Students Emily Johnson and Braxton Beuke will serve as project managers for this project, and enough Rotarians have volunteered so that two Rotarians can attend each date. Stillwater Frontier Rotary has a long tradition of supporting literacy, and  donates a book to the Stillwater Public Library in honor of each weekly speaker at its meetings.
