STILLWATER MUSIC FESTIVAL: Blues and More

Story and images provided by Stillwater Community Center Friends

Our name has changed but the music is still great! The second year of this free music festival is scheduled for April 12 and 13, 2019 at the Stillwater Community Center located at 8th and Duck.  We are expanding to two stages this year and have eight groups ready to perform. The major sponsors of this family friendly event are the Stillwater Community Center Foundation/Friends and Visit Stillwater. Additional sponsors and donors are certainly encouraged to support this event and will be recognized both evenings. Contact the SCC Office for more information or any member of the Stillwater Community Center Foundation/Friends.

MORGAN

Opening the festival on Friday at 6:00 p.m. on the main stage is MORGAN, a local band that really impressed the audience last year with their talent and song selection. Following on the second stage will be a new duo group, Reagan and Reilly Sokolosky, from Austin, TX performing some alternative country.  They’re keeping up a family tradition since their father, an OSU alum, performed at Willie’s. Back on the main stage just a little past 7:00 p.m will be another extremely talented local group, The Val Gladden Band, performing rock, soul, and some Blues as well. About 8:00 p.m, Reagan and Reilly return for their second set.  Then at 8:30 p.m the Jennifer Marriott Band will close out the first night. Called the “Queen of Blues infused Rock and Americana” and applauded for her vocals ranging from a sultry whisper to a velvet gritty growl, she has performed opening sets for many national and international artists.

At 6:00 p.m on Saturday we start again with an entertaining and popular group, Tres Dudes. They will provide a blend of acoustic blues, classic rock, and more. Stacey Sanders of Enid, OK will perform on the second stage about 7:00 p.m. Stacey’s songs tell gritty, earthy stories about his life experiences with a few whimsical tales as well. Following on the main stage will be The Heroes featuring Brad Davis, a Grammy record performing artist, multi-instrumentalist, and vocalist from Commerce TX.  He and a talented local musician, Joel Weaver, have joined forces to produce an exciting and fun show. Stacey Sanders will return for his second set around 8:00 p.m. At 8:30 p.m., Garrett “Big G” Jacobson and his band will close out the evening. “Big G” began performing professionally at age twelve with Oklahoma bluesman D.C. Minner. Within two years he had his own band, recorded his first album, and was playing regularly throughout this region. His recordings have received critical praise from numerous national blues publications. “Big G” has been onstage at Buddy Guy’s legends, The Grand Emporium, and B. B. King’s Blues Club. His soulful vocals and distinct guitar style will leave the audience begging for more.

There will be food trucks, children’s activities (3-80 years of age), a silent auction, beer garden, and lots of excellent music.  We are using more local talent and expanding the genre of music this year to appeal to a more diverse audience. Like last year, suggestions and donations will be gratefully accepted. The event will be indoors out of concern for weather and the significant increase in costs to move outside.  We read all of the suggestions from last year and contacted many of the suggested performers as well as compiled a list of potential groups to consider for future events as we are able to increase our financial support and expand further.

Please join us for one or both nights!
