Stillwater Public Library and Prairie Arts Center partner for teen holiday craft party

Stillwater Public Library’s Teen Advisory Committee (TAC) is partnering with Prairie Arts Center (PAC) for a teen holiday craft party on Friday, Dec. 17, at 6 p.m. Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to hang out, craft and partake in holiday snacks and warm drinks. Space is limited, and registration is required for this event.

Jessica Howe, teen librarian, is looking forward to co-hosting the program with the creative staff at Prairie Arts.

“The TAC teens and I are excited that Prairie Arts is opening up their studio so we can make some cool, holiday-themed art projects,” Howe said. “What a fun way to partner with our neighbors during this festive season!”

Attendees will use wine corks and other materials to make hanging ornaments such as reindeer, snowpeople and many other options. There will also be a station for teens to make seasonal cards.

“This is a great way to reuse materials that are often just tossed in the trash,” Howe said. “We want to show teens that making gifts and décor can be sustainable and inexpensive.”

Teens interested in attending should register in advance to help staff plan to bring enough treats for everyone and keep the event COVID-safe. S’mores, cracker jacks, hot cocoa and apple cider will be provided courtesy of the Friends of the Stillwater Public Library.

The program will be held in the PAC back studio with a large door that will be partially open to ensure better airflow. The library also encourages attendees to:

· Not attend an event if ill or experiencing Covid-19 symptoms

· Please consider wearing a mask over nose and mouth

· Remain at a safer distance from others not in their households

TAC members, like the ones who planned this program, sign up for a year-long term to help plan teen library programs, provide input on which young adult materials to order and volunteer for events and projects as needed. Members earn community service hours that library staff verify for resumes, college applications and other programs requiring proof of volunteer hours. They also gain leadership experience, make new friends and community connections and are eligible to participate in TAC-only programs and events.

Registration for the teen holiday craft party and TAC can be found at library.stillwater.org/teen_services.php or call the Help Desk at (405) 372-3633 x8106.
