Story provided by Stillwater Public Library Area teens are invited to attend “Video Game Movie Night” at the Stillwater Public Library (SPL) on Friday, March 3, from 6-8 p.m. At this program, teens in grades 6-12 will watch a movie about an epic martial arts tournament based on the popular video game series. Attendees can make a craft and enjoy themed snacks. Librarians request registration to help ensure ample snacks and supplies for everyone who attends.
The film being shown was released in 1995 and is rated PG-13. The story follows a group of heroes who are summoned to a mysterious island to compete in a tournament to protect Earth from being conquered by evil forces.
Jordan Stine, SPL teen librarian, looks forward to providing a laid-back environment where teens can watch silly movies and hang out with their friends.
“The movie is a bit dated and should provide some funny moments,” Stine said. “The Teen Advisory Committee (TAC) selected it because they thought it would lend will to a fun evening with cool crafts.
In addition to watching the movie, there will also be a video game-inspired craft where teens can make miniature characters based on the film.
“Having the teens put their creativity on full display and make something unique creates a fun environment for everyone,” Stine said. “They can also use these figures for anything they like, whether for role-playing games or something cool to display on their shelves.”
Teens will also make themed snacks and beverages based on characters from the video game and movie, such as “Kung Lao Chicken” and “Scorpion Sting.”
The Friends of the Stillwater Public Library provide funding for movie licensing, craft supplies, snacks and drinks for programs, including “Video Game Movie Night.”
TAC members, like the ones who helped plane this program, sign up for a year-long term to help plan library programs, provide input on which young adult materials to order and volunteer for events and projects as needed.
