Teen gaming fun with the Stillwater Public Library on May 21

Story provided by Stillwater Public Library

Stillwater Public Library is hosting a virtual game night for area teens on Friday, May 21, at 4:30 p.m. Payne County teens can join us for an evening of virtual fun and competition.

Throughout the pandemic, virtual gaming has been a popular way for teens to connect with each other when hanging out in the “real world” has not been as much of an option.

“We’ve found our virtual game nights to be the most consistently popular programs for teens during the last year,” said Teen Librarian Jessica Howe. “It makes sense because kids are looking for ways to hang out and have fun with their friends. Restrictions are lifting, but it may take a while before there are more in-person activities.”

At past programs, the Teen Advisory Committee (TAC) chose to play the literary party game “Bring Your Own Book” with gameplay similar to “Apples to Apples.” This time, TAC members have chosen an online word-guessing game called “Skribbl.io,” where players take turns drawing a word, and others guess what it is, similar to the old game “Hangman.” To join the fun, participants should register at tinyurl.com/SPLTeenGameMay. An email will be sent on the day with a link to join the Zoom meeting.

Howe plans to continue game nights and is working with TAC to plan a “Dungeons and Dragons” session for the next program.
