If you haven’t purchased your tickets for Annie Get Your Gun at Town and Gown Theatre you need to–soon! The final show of the season–a musical–nearly always sells out and we don’t think this one will be the exception.
Annie Oakley is the best shot around. When she’s discovered by Col. Buffalo Bill, he persuades the novel sharpshooter to join his Wild West Show. It only takes one glance for her to fall head over heels for dashing shooting ace Frank Butler, who headlines the show. She soon eclipses Butler as the main attraction which, while good for business, is bad for romance.
Directed by Anna Davis, a real life wild west show historian at the Pawnee Bill Ranch and Museum in Pawnee, Oklahoma, this cast has chemistry and great comedic timing. Married in real life, the leading lady and man (Matthew and Elizabeth Ziegler) bring fire and familiarity to their romantic roles in a way community theater rarely sees. There’s romance and comedy and music and lyrics by Irving Berlin. The songs in this Broadway classic are funny, sharp witted, endearing, and instantly recognizable.
