Story provided by Stillwater History Museum at the Sheerar
Something old, something new: 100 years of wedding dresses is on display now through August. Wedding dresses, photographs, accessories and more tell the story of 18 Stillwater families. One bride (Wilma White) was pushed around town in a wheelbarrow on her wedding day (a Cushing tradition); one groom (Follow Venn) was in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1945. The wedding exhibit highlights some of the work done in the museum’s textile collection and the Helt Photography Studio wedding negative collection as a result of two Historic Preservation grants from Oklahoma Historical Society. One panel highlights wedding pictures of the Helt family for 4 generations; another panel will feature some of the images from the negative collection currently being rehoused and digitized.
