2020 Mummy and Son Dance, Halloween Festival among City events cancelled due to COVID-19

Media Release

Many residents have been asking: are the City’s annual events happening this year? Due to safety concerns around the current pandemic, the City has cancelled the following 2020 recreational events:

  • Mummy and Son Dance
  • Downtown Halloween Festival
  • Breakfast with Santa

“We are extremely disappointed that we must cancel these events. This was a difficult decision, but it was made with the public’s safety in mind,” Community Resources Manager Barbara Bliss said. “Though the Halloween festival is outdoors, it typically draws crowds of over 3,000, making physical distancing difficult. Because the Mummy and Son Dance and Breakfast with Santa are both indoors, it would be a challenge to prevent close contact—especially because Santa stops in Stillwater to take pictures and eat breakfast with all the children.”

The City appreciates its residents patience and understanding as it works to mitigate community risk. Stillwater’s community spread of the COVID-19 virus has warranted state health officials to consider Stillwater in the midst of an epidemic. Residents should take all precautions to limit the spread of the disease as identified by CDC Guidelines and regularly check for Citystate, and federal updates to stay informed.
