Eskimo Joe’s is hosting its annual Joe’s United Way Golf Classic benefiting United Way of Payne County on Friday, May 31 at Cimarron Trails Golf Club in Perkins.

The tournament begins at 1 p.m. and is expected to include a meal, auction and sponsored mini-events at locations on the golf course.  The first 25 teams to register will receive player gifts, valued at no less than $50.

Kendra Burtrum, event coordinator and public relations director for Stan Clark Companies, designed the tournament to accommodate 25 teams of four in a single day. She has managed the event for 17 years and currently serves on the United Way Board of Directors, which echoes her commitment to help the community and bring fun into fundraising.

“Eskimo Joe’s is all about a good time and we do our best to weave that into everything we do, including this golf tournament we host for United Way,” Burtrum said. She said don’t be surpised to see a toilet on the green as a hole-in-one opportunity, Eskimo Joe driving around in a golf cart, a toilet on the green as a hole-in-one-opportunity or Joe’s messy pig sliders being served up on a tee box to golfers.

Prizes may also be given out to any golfer skilled enough to make a hole-in-one at certain locations on the course.

Burtrum and Schaller after Schaller won a hole-in-one prize

Among last year’s winners, Mike Schaller, made a hole-in-one which led him to receiving $25,000 toward a new car. With his winnings, he purchased a 2023 Camry Hybrid XSE.

“I witnessed the feat myself and that was definitely a highlight,” Burtrum said.

She said most sponsors had a presence on the course, which provided a lot of interaction and engagement for the players. Plus, they raised a good amount of money from the auction and tournament.

The money the tournament raises will be donated to United Way and go toward its annual campaign goal of $1 million.

United Way grants 23 nonprofit partner agencies with funding, volunteer time and more. The partner agencies’ missions align with United Way’s efforts to expand education, decrease poverty and improve health and safety for the community.
