Beauty Meets Compassion at Meridian Technology Center

Meridian’s Cosmetology program has teamed up with Wigs for Kids to provide wigs for children who have experienced hair loss.

The non-profit organization is known for its mission to provide custom-made hairpieces to children experiencing hair loss because of various medical conditions, including alopecia, cancer and burns.

“These wigs restore a child’s confidence and self-esteem,” said Kayrene Chavez, Instructor in Meridian’s Cosmetology program.

Anyone can donate their hair. The hair must be at least 12 inches long to donate, and participants will receive their haircut from the Cosmetology students free of charge. The program will provide participants everything they need to send the donation in to Wigs for Kids.

“This partnership adds to the educational experience students receive at Meridian and it empowers them to make an impact,” Chavez said.

Wigs for Kids does not charge families for the wigs they receive. The organization was founded in 1981 and was the first organization to provide these hair replacement systems.

“We are excited to partner with Wigs for Kids,” said Dr. DeAnna Little, Director of Instruction at Meridian. “It gives our students a chance to apply their knowledge and skills to make a real difference in the lives of children who are going through challenging times.
