Classic Cinema at the Center presents Lilies of the Field this Friday, July 9 at 7 pm at the Stillwater Community Center at 8th and Duck St. Sidney Poitier stars in an Academy Award Winning Performance for Best Actor.
The title for this 1963 film comes from a portion of the Sermon on the Mount. The story is of Homer Smith, veteran and itinerant worker, who encounters a group of East European nuns who have escaped through East Berlin. Mother Maria believes Homer has been sent to them by God to build them a new chapel near Tucson, Arizona. Bridging the Cultural Gap — they share their musical traditions: Catholic chants and Baptist Hymns with a rendition of “Amen”. Join us for this funny and heart-warming movie Lilies of the Field in the Winfrey Houston Auditorium at 7 pm Friday evening, July 9.
