The Visit Stillwater team, in partnership with the City of Stillwater and Stillwater Chamber of Commerce, hope to welcome ice skating back to downtown Stillwater this upcoming holiday season.
“We are excited to announce the City of Stillwater and Stillwater Chamber of Commerce are partnering with Visit Stillwater to bring an outdoor, 102′ x 48′ ice skating rink to Stillwater over the holiday season,” said Willie Baker, Visit Stillwater Chairman of the Board. “The Visit Stillwater team is working with Ice Challenge Enterprises, based out of Oklahoma City, to provide an attraction located in the heart of our community for both residents and visitors to enjoy.”
City Manager Norman McNickle said, “Partnerships like this helps keep Stillwater strong. Last year’s holiday season was successful because everyone worked together to promote
our community and our local businesses. I’m looking forward to this year’s effort.”
If there is sufficient local support, the rink will be available to ice skating enthusiasts from mid-November through the end of December. Hours and dates of operation along with ticketing details will be announced in August, but estimated dates include November 24, 2017 through January 1, 2018 with hours tentatively set for Monday-Thursday 3pm-9pm, Friday 3pm-10pm, Saturday 12pm-10pm, and Sunday 12pm-9pm. There is also the potential for extended and special hours over Thanksgiving and Christmas as well as “private ice” opportunities. If there are enough local sponsors for the rink Visit Stillwater hopes that admission prices will be able to be kept to $10. There will also be season passes and group rates available.
To ensure the availability of a family-friendly activity over the holidays, contact Cristy Morrison, Visit Stillwater President/CEO, for details in regard to sponsorship opportunities at 405-743-3697.
Morrison stated, “Our team, along with John McClenny of the City of Stillwater, began researching additional potential holiday activities during the 2016 season. We received a tremendous amount of encouragement last year to provide affordable, family activities in the future. We all feel confident additional actives, along with the Warner Bros. story, THE POLAR EXPRESS™, will create a fun environment for residents, and provide visitors additional motivation to come to Stillwater over the holidays.”
