The Stillwater Public Library, Stonecloud Brewing Company and Bliss Books will be hosting a “Retro Book Fair” on Sunday, September 24, from 12 to 4 p.m. All ages are invited to attend the event with a portion of proceeds going to the Stillwater Public Library Trust.

The library has been celebrating its Centennial throughout 2023 with a dual goal: to celebrate the last 100 years and to help sustain the library for 100 more.

“Our goal is to raise $100,000 during 2023 to help prepare the library to tackle even more impactful projects in the next century,” said Library Director Stacy DeLano. “Events like this one allow us to raise funds while still providing the community with a fun experience.”

The book fair will feature popular book titles to purchase from Bliss Books, various nostalgic book fair trinkets like scented pens, erasers, bookmarks and highlighters, mood pencils, novelty pencil sharpeners, and bookish buttons, magnets and stickers.

Pat and Roger Mullins, owners of Bliss Books, are glad to be a part of the library’s Centennial.

“We are so happy to do our part in the celebration of our library’s first 100 years,” they said. “The Stillwater Public Library plays vital and essential roles in our community; we should all do our part to use and support our library and the staff who make the magic happen.”

There will also be literary-themed frozen drinks and Centennial pint glasses available for purchase. Good Little Eater will be serving brunch that day as well from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will try to put a bookish spin on a dish or two.

Matt Sullins, taproom manager at Stonecloud, looks forward to raising funds for the Library Trust.

“Stonecloud is so proud to be able to do our part to support the Stillwater Public Library, especially during their Centennial celebration. The library is such an important cornerstone for our community and we are happy and willing to do whatever we can to help and promote their cause.”

In addition to food, drinks and trinkets, there will also be festive décor. Attendees are encouraged to dress in their favorite 80s and 90s clothes, and there will be brief readings from popular book fair series from the time period like “Goosebumps,” The Babysitter’s Club” and “Choose Your Own Adventure.”

The library will continue its Centennial Celebration with a Haunted Library fundraiser on Oct. 19-21. Information about purchasing tickets will be available in the upcoming weeks.
