Stillwater High School Theatre presents Neil Simon’s Fools

Story provided by Stillwater Public Schools

Stillwater High School Theatre will present Fools, a comedy by Neil Simon, November 9, 11, and 12 at the Stillwater High School Performing Arts Center.

Fools is a comic fable about a village in Russia cursed with stupidity and a schoolteacher’s attempt to teach them… well anything, and break the curse forever.

The production stars Reed Bonge as schoolmaster Leon Tolchinsky who comes to Kulyenchikov to try and break the 200 year old curse of stupidity. He is invited there by Dr. Zubritsky, played by Jacob Ebersole and his wife Lenya Zubritsky, played by Delainey Huddleston. Upon arrival, Leon discovers a connection between the curse and the Zubritsky ancestors, and decides to break the curse by educating their daughter, Sophia Zubritsky, played by Gwyneth Moore. Fools also stars Clark Ranone as antagonist Count Gregor, Andi Reuter as Snetsky the shepherd, Yerin Hwang as Slovitch the butcher, Logan Watkins as Mishkin the postman and Paige Gofourth as Yenchna the vendor. Annie Grizzle, Evan Goodner, Elliot Hale, Connor Little and Lauren Malec round out the cast as the quirky villagers.

“This is a fantastic cast and just such a fun show! The cast of FOOLS is comprised of sophomores, juniors and seniors, who have all been working so hard to bring these characters to life! They may be cursed with stupidity, but the Kulyenchikovites have hearts of gold!,” says Theatre Teacher Elizabeth Ziegler. “We also have a crew of seventeen who have been building, painting and decorating to bring this quaint little Russian village to the stage.”

“FOOLS might not be Neil Simon’s most well known title, but I really do love it! As a former ‘Sophia’ myself, this show is one that will always be near and dear to my heart,” she says. “This show has great physical comedy, silly jokes, and characters that you can’t help but love. It really is a show for all ages!”

FOOLS is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French, Inc. www.concordtheatricals.com
